IPTV - TV & Video Over Your LAN. Encoders, TV Gateways, IPTV Receivers and Video on-Demand: Exterity Helps Lewisham College Adopt New Teaching Methods Exterity Helps Lewisham College Adopt New Teaching Methods ================================================================================ exterity on 14/02/2005 00:00:00 14 February 2005 AV network technology delivers educational content to students over the web London, 14 February 2005: Exterity, a specialist in network audio-visual (AV), has today announced the deployment of its iSocket technology at Lewisham College to deliver teaching content such as live demonstrations to students as and when they want it. Working with the Exterity authorised systems integrator RM as part of a plan to introduce different ways of learning through innovative new teaching methods, Lewisham College is making the most of their existing data network by using the technology to stream live and recorded practical educational videos and TV content to screens and monitors on campus and, for the first time, over the internet. The first application of Exterity??A?A?A?s iSocket technology at the college is within the Hospitality and Catering School where vocational culinary theory is taught in state-of-the-art kitchens during master-class demonstrations. High quality cameras capture and film the demonstration content, which is then distributed over the network for quick and easy student access giving would-be chefs enrolled on the course complete learning flexibility. Students are able to choose whether they wish to watch live, on a Smartboard at the college, or even at home where using any browser to access live broadcasts streamed over the web also makes virtual learning possible. "Many universities and colleges are beginning to recognise the potential of upgrading their existing networks to a future-proofed solution using our IP based iSocket technology," said Colin Farquhar, Exterity??A?A?A?s Chief Executive Officer. "Our work with Lewisham College is a good example of how we are able to turn the traditional teaching environment into a versatile tool offering complete learning flexibility, simultaneously bringing real skills to a larger group of people in a way that suits their needs." Classes at Lewisham College can be recorded, streamed and stored for teaching and learning, creating an interactive revision resource for lecturers and students to refer back to at any time after the classes have finished. "iSocket technology has revolutionised the way we are able to teach, allowing us to distribute digital quality content to students wherever they are, effectively expanding the reach of our vocational courses beyond the compact classroom environment," explained Lyn Gadd, Director of New Technologies at Lewisham College. "The ability to reach a bigger audience without physical constraint not only makes practical education much more accessible, it also means that we are on-track to meet targets set out as part of the government??A?A?A?s e-learning agenda which encourages teachers to be innovators in the ways that their subject is taught." Exterity??A?A?A?s iSocket technology enables the distribution of a multimedia material such as video, TV and DVDs through a data network. To do this, Exterity simply extends an IP or Ethernet network to provide multimedia services using a combination of its iSocket receiver, idaptor, server and TV gateway products. The result is high quality digital video delivered anytime, anyway, and anywhere.
