EXTERITY TO LAUNCH TWO NEW PRODUCTS TO SIMPLIFY THE DELIVERY OF BROADCAST TV OVER IP NETWORKS
Exterity's idaptor and tridaptor TVgateways can stream Freeview and digital satellite broadcast TV across an IP network, to any end point
London, 21 April 2005: Exterity, a specialist in audio-visual (AV) networking technology, is set to launch two new products at this year??A?A?A?s Mediacast. Exterity??A?A?A?s idaptor and the tridaptor TVgateway products, together with Exterity??A?A?A?s existing iSocket technology, will make the deliver of video, TV, cable and satellite content over a network in schools, colleges and businesses quicker, easier and more affordable.
Exterity??A?A?A?s idaptor and tridaptor are "plug and play??A?A?A? broadcast TV to IP (Internet Protocol) network distribution products. Taking up to six DVB-T (digital video broadcasting-Terrestrial) or DVB-S (digital video broadcasting ??" satellite) feeds, the TVgateways will stream the programme contents of up to six broadcast TV multiplexes over a building network. The idaptor and tridaptor TVgateways make IPTV headends a cost-effective alternative to traditional TV and video distribution systems for organisations including corporate, universities, colleges and schools. Once on the building network the TV channels can be delivered through IPTV set-top-box products such as the Exterity iSocket receiver, or through PC??A?A?A?s using streaming video clients such as Windows Media Player.
"The idaptor and tridaptor are essentially replacement products for the traditional and inflexible analogue "TV headend??A?A?A"?, explained Colin Farquhar, managing director, Exterity. "Through deploying either product, any building can have access to broadcast standard TV and media streaming, which until now has been viewed as pricey and something that is the reserve of large broadcasting companies."
The idaptor TVgateway is a two multiplex, standalone MPEG-2 encoder, which can be easily stacked into a wall rack but it is still small enough to be easily portable, weighing only 1.3kgs. It has two inputs, which can be either DVB-T or DVB-S, which can deliver the TV and radio programs contained in two multiplexes across a network. A corporate might use the DVB-T idaptor TVgateway to deliver the BBC and SKY channels from the UK Freeview DVB-T service as news feeds to staff desktops and information feeds to staff public areas.
The tridaptor TVgateway is a 1unit high 19-inch rack mountable unit with six DVB-T or DVB-T inputs. The tridaptor TVgateway in its DVB-T only configuration can stream the entire UK Freeview service over a building network. It is ideal for the large enterprise wishing to roll out a comprehensive networked-AV solution, or a University wishing to provide news, entertainment and foreign language TV channels around its campus.
The launch of these latest two products will enable Exterity to offer companies a complete end-to-end AV networking solution that is truly converged.
Both products will be available from July 2005.
