Exterity launches idaptor and tridaptor MPEG-2 encoder products

London, 20 March 2005: Exterity, a specialist in audio-visual (AV) networking technology, has today announced the availability of a new range of MPEG-2 encoder products aimed at accelerating the deployment of MPEG-2 encoding on corporate, education and hospitality networks.  The idaptor MPEG-2 encoder provides a single MPEG-2 encoding channel, while the rack-mounted tridaptor MPEG-2 encoder provides three simultaneous MPEG-2 encoding channels.

"Distribution of TV over building IP networks (IPTV) has been held back by the typical high cost of MPEG-2 encoders," commented Colin Farquhar, Chief Executive Officer, Exterity.  "We believe the arrival of the idaptor and tridaptor MPEG-2 encoder products will address this key concern and will make the creation of IPTV headends in building a practical reality"

The idaptor and tridaptor MPEG-2 encoder products are based on Exterity proven iSocket AV server product launched in 2003.  First major deliveries of the idaptor MPEG-2 encoder have already taken place.
