Exterity to demo end-to-end building IPTV system at BSEC

BSEC 2009
Manchester Central
11th-12th February
Stand no. 154

The full range of IPTV products on show which combine to help create an innovative educational environment

London, 11th February 2009: Exterity, a specialist in network IPTV, will be demonstrating its full range of industry leading building IPTV solutions at BSEC 2009, the key education sector event.  Visitors to the stand (154) will see how Exterity’s products can be used to create a highly interactive teaching environment that provides new and exciting ways for students to learn.

Today, both new and existing schools have a requirement to introduce different ways of learning through innovative new education techniques, and IPTV - television that is distributed over an IP network; the same kind of network we use to surf the internet and exchange emails - allows schools and universities to expand the teaching experience by distributing educational content over their networks, allowing for fast and easy student access.

With this technology, new and old schools and colleges can ensure that educational TV programs are always available in high quality, enhancing the learning experience for students, who can benefit from being able to access content from their classroom TV, computer, TV projector or interactive whiteboard.

Using IPTV means that not only can TV be viewed live, but content can also be recorded for future use.  This removes the need for teachers to share videos as recordings can be simultaneously streamed to multiple end points.  Teachers also have the ability to tailor programming to the needs of individual students or groups, ensuring that students always have access to relevant and appropriate content.

IPTV is a cost effective solution for schools, colleges and universities, as the technology enables these organisations to not only incorporate existing equipment into an IPTV system, but also future-proof their investment as the system can easily accommodate technological advancements such as HD.  Selecting IPTV over traditional coaxial systems means the existing data network - with no need for additional wiring- can be used to stream live and recorded practical educational videos and TV content to screens and monitors on campus and, for the first time, over the network.

With IPTV, the highest picture quality can be transmitted over any sized area, including multiple locations across a campus, without any risk of signal degradation (a common problem with coaxial networks).

Colin Farquhar, CEO of Exterity comments: “IPTV within educational premises is quickly becoming a standard requirement for both new builds and re-fits.  Exterity’s range of IPTV products make this easily and quickly achievable, demonstrating unsurpassed reliability and representing an excellent value proposition for educational institutions.”

In addition to presenting a complete system in action, Exterity will also be showcasing its pioneering products, including the new HD encoder which is now shipping.  The HD encoder exceeds expectations of high definition broadcasting across building networks in almost every sector, representing an invaluable part of any building IPTV or digital signage system.
