New encoders and decoders allow HD content from cameras, satellite set-top boxes or DVD players to be streamed over IP network

London, 9th September 2009: Exterity, the building IPTV specialist, has launched a new encoder product family, all with 1080p High Definition (HD) capabilities, at this year’s IBC exhibition.  The flagship product in the family is the full HD 1080p ‘IPTV encoder’, which - with its exceptionally high bit rate of 30 Mbps - has been created to meet the needs of the broadcast industry to deliver High Profile 1080p HD TV and video to any compatible end-point on an organisation’s IP network. The products will be available this autumn from Exterity resellers, and demonstrations are taking place in the IPTV Zone on stands 622 & 714.

1080p is the high-quality broadcast standard and is often referred to as full HD.  The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has long pushed for 1080p as a universal broadcast standard due to its superior quality, and in creating its HD encoder, Exterity can provide broadcast companies with the support and equipment they need to meet this recommendation.  With Exterity’s compact and scalable encoder range, broadcast organisations can now record and review the highest quality content across their network so that they can generate the best TV possible.

Colin Farquhar, CEO of Exterity comments: “In the broadcast industry, it is vital to be able to review and edit content in the highest quality to produce the best output.  HD broadcasting is set to rocket, as people want to edit and review content in 1080p, giving a realistic impression of what the consumer will see.  Our encoder gives broadcast companies the technology they need to easily do this.”

Exterity is also demonstrating the newly launched AvediaStream product line, a modular blade and chassis-based solution that helps organisations in every industry better leverage TV and video as a vital business tool.  The company’s full range of TVgateways, MPEG encoders, video on-demand (VoD) servers and IPTV receivers will be on display, together with its Avedia PC clients that allow users to view, record and replay live TV on their PCs. Its IPTV management software will also be demonstrated in conjunction with the equipment being run live at the show. The products’ versatility means that they are ideal for a wide range of applications in many industries, not just broadcast, but also enterprise, education, venue and hospitality environments.

Additionally, Exterity CEO Colin Farquhar, will team with senior Oracle and IBM representatives to present the IBC Business Briefing, Exploiting IP to add new dimensions to video distribution and programme production.  The presentation will take place on Saturday 12th September 11.00am - 12.30pm in Room O beside Hall 12, the IPTV/Mobile Zones.

Colin will discuss:

  • The benefits of building IPTV compared to analogue systems
  • How to ease network managers’ worries about building IPTV’s impact on the LAN
  • How businesses of any size can use building IPTV to leverage the power of TV, VoD, live cameras, digital signage, and many other technologies
